Understanding the data needs of your METOS® devices helps ensure reliable data transfer to FieldClimate and prevents connectivity issues due to insufficient SIM card data plans. This article provides an overview of the approximate data consumption for different METOS® devices based on transmission interval and image upload frequency.
1. Data Usage of Weather Stations
The following table summarizes the typical data volume consumed by various METOS® station models. Values may vary depending on sensor configuration and measurement frequency.
iMETOS 3.3 | METOS 5 | µMETOS | NB‑IoT | nMETOS
| Transmission Type | METOS 5 / µMETOS | iMETOS 3.3 | nMETOS |
| Single transmission | ~1 KB | ~5 KB | ~1 KB |
Hourly transmission (per month) | ~0.8 MB | ~0.8 MB | ~0.8 MB |
15‑minutes interval (per month) | ~3 MB | ~10 MB | ~3 MB |
10‑minutes interval (per month) | ~4.5 MB | ~20 MB | ~4.5 MB |
2. Data Usage of Imaging Devices
Many devices such as iSCOUT®, CropVIEW®, and CropVIEW® DUAL transmit images in addition to sensor data. Because images are large, these devices require significantly more data.
iSCOUT | CropVIEW | CropVIEW DUAL
| Image Activity | iSCOUT | CropVIEW | CropVIEW DUAL |
| Data volume per picture | ~12 MB | ~12 MB | ~24 MB |
| 1 picture/day (per month) | ~0.37 GB | ~0.37 GB | ~0.75 GB |
| 2 pictures/day (per month) | ~0.75 GB | ~0.75 GB | ~1.5 GB |
Important Notes About Data Plans
- More frequent sensor measurements and shorter logging intervals increase data consumption.
- Devices taking images require substantially more data; ensure your plan accommodates this.
- Always choose a SIM card data plan that meets or exceeds the required monthly usage shown above.
- Insufficient data volume may result in delayed transmissions or complete loss of data reporting.
